Grand Canyon – Desert View Watchtower

Painted on June 18 2014 ‘en plein air’, on location.

I was accompanied by my daughter, and we could find seats on the crumbly rocks, at the bottom of the west side corner of the Desert View Watchtower.

The camera and the backpacks were held close as any movement could make them disappear in the abyss.  As to add another obstacle to our timed race, the wind started to blow harder, and colder.  I had to sketch very fast and start to paint soon after, as the sun was setting very fast and did not allow us to sit longer and observe or enjoy.  Having to open the backpack to get the brush, watercolors and the water bottle was not an easy task.

In the end we finished our painting in time and we had a minute or two to admire the majestic sunset and to get on top, safe.
